COLOR ME GREEN

Spring has arrived.

Every seed has awakened and is poking its little green tips of new life upward to cover Mother Earth's body once again. You can smell, see and feel the summer freshness just around the corner.

It is time to offer our blessings to the fruits of the mother land. We should thank our ancestors for taking care of our Mother Earth as we appreciate all of her new gifts. Teach your children to love and find a kinship to the needs of nature as we humbly receive the abundance of our earth's precious gifts of foods.

Take this time to enjoy this new landscape, respecting and honoring your new seasonal surroundings. Enrich your principles as you study the young green things as they produce beauty over the world.

You have a responsibility to save our precious land for future generations. In earlier times the American Indian knew how to live close to nature. They evaluated everything, following the changes in time, the seasons, the weather, the winds, the elements and the stars. We must nurture and maintain the collective knowledge of Mother Earth and the need of the green things if we are to survive. Life was simple then and Time seemed plentiful.

Today, time seems to be forcing the human to move at a faster pace.

Saving the Green

Since humankind is at the top of the food chain and have become the most dominant species on Mother Earth, why have we chosen the detrimental changes in our environment? It is affecting all life forces and disturbing the elements. Millions of acres are being destroyed yearly from this reckless behavior. What about the gold we mine and sell to the highest bidder. Gold is an essential mineral to earth's energy flow. If too much is removed from her body, the energy will cease to move, resulting in the surface of the earth to cool. Keeping our Mother Earth well, we must stop poisoning the earth, air and the water; these actions are destroying the life of our planet. It seems we have a great need to strip the soil, chop down the trees, release unknown gases in the air, hunt and kill the wild species to the point of endangerment, poison the sea life and what about the rainforest and the acid rains?

The on-going massive scale of oil spill damage is killing the land, the thousands of migrating birds, the sea animals, and the environment. How can we survive without the elements of earth, water air and fire? In the name of progress, the powerful and the selfish are abusing and will continue to destroy, driving the wild life into the cities desperately searching to find their place and foods which was once the natural ways of the wild.

How do we save all of the sacred plant medicines, the animals, the sea life, the creepy crawlies, and the green things? They have a right to live as well as the human. This is their right. The human species must respect and take care of Mother Earth and to share equally with all of her children. Our lifestyle has upset the balance of nature.

Most of the wild life and the growing green things are on the endangered list. If these destructions are not altered, what is the future for life on this planet? Are we so blind that we cannot see how we are affecting all life on this planet? We as a thinking people must change our ways and once again follow the laws of Mother Earth. It is vital we change our attitude about life. Once again we need to respect all species of life to pass on to our future race, or do we show our children's, children a picture from an old history book to tell them what once was. Being an avid reader, I relate to the unusual facts about the world and its blatant, yet subtle phenomena of nature. In sharing some of these facts with you, let me take you to the time I lived in Texas. I heard many people speak of the pre-storm green sky before bad weather. They informed me if I stayed around long enough, I would experience a real green storm.

It was daytime and the sunset was an hour away. It was cold yet the sky was dark with a rolling green like cloud with greenish electrical bolts of lightening coming out of its center. The Texans were right; we experienced a severe thunderstorm that turned into a tornado.

In 1985 the marine observer carried a story about a ship in the Indian Ocean experiencing a large green bolt of light shooting down into the Indian Ocean lasting maybe three seconds then suddenly disappeared. This phenomenon was never explained.

Storms, frogs, and Irishmen

I knew sky colors change by the scattering of the sunlight or the movement of heavy clouds decks. I also understood one of the most dangerous storms comes from the brightest green light produced by our atmosphere.

So why does the sky turn green? No one really knows, yet when the clouds are filled with heavy water vapor this color appears and affects our weather. We also have a green glow existing around the colors of the northern and southern poles. Science reminds us there is no oxygen or lightening bolts on Venus, yet, in 1970 they found a green glow coming from the planet. Could the color green mean; the flow of life. What about the global warning? In fact, we owe our existence to the green house effect. Each greenhouse gas has its on way of trapping the heat of the sun.

The more greenhouse gases are in the atmosphere the more heat we trap. The less gases, the less life our planet will produce. Life is a delicate balance with the laws of nature. We have just enough heat to make our world flourish with life. We need to ask many questions about the process and powers of the green Mother Earth. I am thankful to Wakan Tanka. We pray he smiles upon the children of our green planet.

The color green is created from blue or yellow, it is also our basic color of vegetation, foliage and trees. The color green soothes our soul. It is known the work place, government offices, prisons, and hospitals paint the walls soft green to create a calming effect for the people. This information seems to fit everyone except the Indian and the Irish. When the Irish people came to America they soon found their ways did not fit into high society. Needless to say they did find the American Indian. Over time they realized they admired each other and had much in common; such as living off the land, the love of nature, hunting, tempers, fighting, women, drinking and love to party hardy.

Many breeds of today came from the mixed marriages of Indian and Irish, and I must say I am proud to be one of them. Ah yes, but the heart of a breed beats louder and its soul hears quicker in silence and solitude.

Fact or fiction?
Oh, the luck of the Irish. What about St Patrick's Day. They pin a sprig of shamrock on their clothing or the girls would wear green ribbons in their hair. According to superstition, the color green was thought to bring bad luck because it was the favorite color of the unpredictable fairy people.

So what do we know about the color green? We say a person who loves the plants have a green thumb. There are green flowers. They are subtle and enhance the depth of beauty to a bouquet of colorful flowers. When we look at natures magic, you will use your senses sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell to embrace your world of green.

Green birds, green lizards and the green frogs. Green is a natural color for the birds. They use the color to camouflage themselves, giving them an advantage against predators. There are green birds all over the world. In England they have the green woodpecker. In India, the small green billed Malkoha. From tropical to every shoreline, Green parrots, parakeets have moved into your homes. Birds communicate with life through their chirps and song while traveling around the world to bring their message of truth. It seems every life force has a definite purpose and talent. We were born to take responsibilities for our life and take care of our Mother Earth.

The frog's particular sound supports creation and Mother Earth. They say when you hear the voices of the frogs know they are calling in the rains. Listen closely to the tonal croaking of the green frog. From a tadpole to a frog, it is connected to the moon, the land and water. They live in marshes, ponds, borders of lakes having a lifespan about five years. This semi- aquatic, webbed toed, large hind legged frogs use their mysteries tones to send their message to the human. Sometimes it sounds like a twang on a guitar string.

The tree frogs sit on branches allowing its tears to fall to let the cleansing process begin. The medicine of all frogs is cleansing and emotional healing, using the element of water and sound to help you make your transformation. Frog says; Let your tears flow and release your captured soul. In some manner the frog connects to all life forces with their tonal sound which invites everyone to ground themselves into the core energy of Mother Earth, an ongoing energetic dance of pure energy. In recent years, this energy flow through the earth has changed and is now involved with a solar connection through the grand central sun, near a black hole that is located in the center of our Milky Way. How many ways can we use and think the color green? Let the list below roll over in your mind as you ponder how it affects all aspect of your life.

The fresh cut grass satisfies the sense of our smell. The green leaves on the trees helps us feel new life. The green rolling hills helps us feel calm and reminds us to stretch our mind toward a peaceful new beginning. Green is our enjoyment of a nature walk. It helps us appreciate our world. Say a little prayer to the color green and offer gratitude to nature's beauty and bounties, a gift of spiritual enrichment.
Trees - Nature's Exorcists
So what about our green zone phenomena in the human? Many times my Grandmother demanded me to sit under a green shade tree when I was not being truthful with my emotions and mouth. When I finally learned stubborn was stupid, I realized I had no inner truth. It seemed I FELT OBLIGATED to tell people what they wanted to hear.

Little did I know, the body could absorb positive energy from a green tree. It was my grandmother who taught me about the self lie barometer test. She once said, to lie to another is a terrible thing, but to lie to yourself is the most unforgivable act you could ever make. With her stern guidance, she forced me to recognize, lying was a sign of total failure. With consistency and hard core discipline, my grandmother forced me to accept what I was doing to myself and others. Eventually learning to understand her words, I followed her guidance and learned how to keep my inner truth strong. It is like magic. You can express your truth without fear or doubt and never worry over whether they like you or not.

It seems the more you value self truth, the closer your connection is to your inner truth. Why live in a world of insecurity and create a miserable life for yourself and others. When you are not connected to the power of the color green, you don't know your truth nor can you recognize the symptoms of a liar? When you have difficulties with communication, this keeps you from expressing your feelings. If you have difficulties in making decisions, you will feel confused and unable to express true feelings. You need to let go of your hurts, restrictions and anxieties.

Get rid of your co-dependencies so you have the space to learn who your are. Acknowledge your jealousies and envies. For a moment, go to your feelings, such as; depression, confused, afraid and withdrawn. This lack of acting upon positive knowledge, will keep you in a negative state of mind, allowing you to stay ignorant and unaware of who you are, or how you dishonor yourself as well as others. You will feel worthless, create your failure, misery, poverty and the uncertainty of your life, feeding this destructive way to all those around you.

Go within and look at your inner distortions to hide your lies. When you take control of your life there is no fear. You must rebuild your belief system from your self truth and structure a good foundation for the integrity to live from within you. When you live by your inner truth the true path of harmony gives you peace and happiness. With positive thinking and good productive thoughts you will learn to express and act within your honest feelings. Use the knowledge of the color green, and you will feel alive every moment in every day.

When time permits, I love sitting quietly on the patio, surrounded by a colorful rose garden, almost hearing them grow. My heart fills with serenity as I bask in the moment watching the roses dance with a soft wind, casting shadows against the wall as the sun goes over down. For a moment I felt sadness as the shadows lost themselves to the dark of night.

When the night creatures awakened, I thought of an earlier childhood memory of long ago. During those sweet twilight hours I was controlled by the flash of lightening bugs. I loved chasing and catching them in a fruit jar, always letting them go before bedtime. This simple activity filled me with excitement and moments of focused freedom. I asked myself, why our world is filled with so much stress and chaos, swirling our personal life into doubts and fear. Why can't the masses assemble their thoughts and own their feelings and their world? Why do they embrace this mental struggle of doubt and fear? The answer is in front of you. Why not embrace the wisdom of nature allowing all the green things to soothe and inspire your direction in life. After all, the color green does effect our environment and the chemical balance in our body by triggering our endocrine system, touching the circulatory system helping us as individuals to become more giving. The heart is more than just a muscle. It gives us the ability to share in harmony within self and others, always supporting our ability to reconcile our differences.

It seems one should know the human aspirations and survival abilities are closely bound to our green Mother Earth and all of her resources. How magical life can be if we would remember the simple things, like chasing a lightening bug. Why not fill the heart with freedom and visit a special nature place.

As I live my life, the conflict that boils within often tempts me to destroy the keeper of my values and reach out and take what destiny has given to others. But, when I feel the wind in my hair and the coolness of the river on my skin, I realize that others do not possess what my soul is searching for.

Sha Tonga and Jakes column
We had a bad wind storm. It howled all night, throwing garbage cans around, turning over a big trash can filled with bird seed. Naturally, the mommie was upset. It was our day to relax, sleep, eat and watch television with our eyes closed. My, my, what a mess. We tried to tell her it was too heavy to lift, but she would not listen to our puppy wisdom. The Mommie continued to struggle and became very angry with her abilities.

For some reason, she actually thought she could move a two hundred and fifty pound can. We told her not to do that, but she would not listen. She demanded we get out from around her feet in a very rude manner. Both of us moved away and watch this crazy lady struggle from afar. Eventually, she gave up in frustration and sat down at the picnic table in silence. Jake and I cautiously joined her and sat at her feet, all thinking and thinking trying to figure out what to do.

We tried to tell her to call for help but she wouldn't listen. Eventually we went to get another garbage can with wheels and her dust pan. She plopped down on the ground and begins to fill the dust pan with bird seed filling the other can. Jake had an allergy attack from the seed dust and moved across the yard. I was brave. I stayed with her encouraging her every move. We divided the spilled bird seed into the two garbage cans. Once she was satisfied that she could pick up the half filled bird seed can, the mommies struggled and struggled until she lifted the half filled garbage can back into an upright position, scotching it with a big rock.

Everyone was happy, we had fixed the dilemma. The mommie fed the birds and we went back into the house to continue our day off to relax.

It was about three in the morning when we heard a loud crash. We ran outside to find the winds had ripped a large branch from the top of a cottonwood tree, throwing it across the yard, into the cactus garden. We examined the devastation. The Mommie pulled the limb across the yard and left it in our pathway.

Well, here we go again. Saturday is our day to rest. No, we don't get our day off. We are cutting up the tree limb readying it for the garbage man and cleaning the back ‡ acre to get ready for the June 20th Sundance ceremony. We have a need. We know there are puppies out there like us, who have Mommie problems. We are asking for help. Can anyone tell us how we can have our day of rest? We are tired of working every day of the week. If we try to rebel she merely leaves us in the house. Well, as we explained earlier in our column. Without us, she gets in trouble and sometimes hurts herself. WOLF CLAN HOWLS, An American Indian online study course offers a connection to the many traditional medicine teachings. Since all things are born from the sacred circle, these presented teachings will introduce you to the original representations for all life forces, we are one. Each subject matter is adapted to fulfill your life as well as many growth levels of spiritual progress, building you a strong and solid foundation.

The number Four and Seven hold great significance to the Indian. The four directions -The four winds- The four elements-The four stages of life-The four ages of human-The four seasons-Old man four generations,(fire pit) etc.

Take a brief walk with me through the seven directions. Starting in the West, turning clockwise, we find the Thunderbeings. The color of the West is black. Thunderbeings bring us the life-giving rains, personal strength through introspection, while using our past experiences for growth. The North claims the color White, the bringer of the snow, teaching us purity, renewal and cleansing. The East is Yellow, signifying Illumination, Wisdom, and Clarity. The South is Red, the place where our physical life ends and our soul life begins, guiding us to our truth, growth and love. The Above direction embrace the color Blue. The sky calendars give us the maps to learn about the many worlds; using the sun, moon, stars, solar systems, galaxies and the millions of Universes.

The Below direction represents our green Mother Earth, the one that takes care of all her children. Her outer beauty surrounds us. Her inner beauty is hidden below the soil, filled with many powerful colored forms each holding hidden secrets of great power. And YOU, my friend, no matter your race, slowly weave the directions together as one massive power. We are all related.

Take a moment and think of yourself and how you live your life. Is your mind disciplined? Does your heart tell you the truth? This study course will help you embrace many hidden techniques, giving you a happier daily life and peace in your heart.

The teaching tools come from the oldest of ways, handed down orally through many generations, through our history, legends, time, space, matter and spirit. You will learn to use this vast knowledge of sacred medicine ways that are needed in everyday life, all the while feeding your soul as you step onto the Red Road.

Reflect for a moment and look closer at our ever-changing times. Today's society neglects the needs of the people. In the external world, life demands we survive using our mental capacities to progress forward in the monetary world while staying in the presence of our non-feeling logical mind.

We have a right to have the better things in life, and that's good. Why can't this be accomplished? Why is this journey of life so hard? We are told to fulfill our material needs. Once this is achieved, why must we consistently struggle with silent loneliness trying to fulfill the desperate need of being loved, nurtured, respected and given kindness? The answer is: THE WALK FROM THE HEART TO THE HEAD IS ONLY 18 INCHES.

It takes great courage to stand up for who you are in this dog-eat-dog external world. One must have strong principles to walk and talk in truth, strength and kindness. The integrity of the soul yearns for peace and love in the heart. Creator wants us to live in material comfort yet stay within the harmonics of the natural laws.

"Wind Wolf Woman", an autobiographical account, chronicles the life history of a fourth-generation American Indian medicine woman who learns to balance on the razor's edge between two cultures - the Red world and the White world - with vastly different belief systems. In this epic journey of her search for identity and spirituality, she struggles determinedly to find a place for herself in both cultures while battling rejection. After traveling around the world and learning from many spiritual teachers, she returns full circle to her traditional Indian roots.

Born an illegitimate breed and deposited days later on her father's doorstep she knew nothing of her birth mother until later in life. Named Sunbeam by her paternal grandmother and raised under her strong hand of discipline, Sunbeam learns the sacredness of all life and how it relates to the medicine ways.

In crafting her life story, Mahinto - lecturer, teacher, and medicine woman - reveals the twentieth-century plight of the Indian people, who until recently were portrayed as a nomadic race riding free as the wind over the land they called home. At the same time, she offers promise that all cultures can, by honoring the preciousness of life, walk together in harmony on our sacred Mother Earth.
