SECOND WORLD OF THE FIVE WORLDS

EMERGING INTO SECOND WORLD

Sotuknang destroyed First World, leaving nothing to remind the people of how wicked first world had become. He waited for the earth to cool and once again purified the land, transporting the water to where it was once land, and the land to where it was once water. Once satisfied, Sotuknang created Second world, filling every river and stream on Mother Earth before traveling to the ant mound. Once he arrived he stamped upon it, calling out to the people. The Ant People heard and graciously welcomed everyone into their underground home. The people quickly rolled back the straw thatch which hung over the Welcome ceremonial ladder which allows the Kachinas and people to enter and leave the sacred Kiva. This welcome ceremony is still in use today.

Sotuknang knew this emergence would take a great amount of time for all the people and animals to enter Second World. When the people saw Second World they did not recognize the many changes and were bewildered. They quietly sat on the ground facing the east in total silence, each staring into the dim mystic light that hovered upon a hazy horizon. At first, the animals were startled until they looked deep into the hearts of the human and felt great fear. Immediately the animals knew and became wild again, escaping into the safety of darkness. Sotuknang understood the bewilderment on each face, knowing this strange moment was becoming a desperate state of confusion. Sotuknang, spoke with great love, "My Children! I know each of you. I embrace all of you from my heart. Sing your praises from your heart to Creator and learn your purpose of birth in Second World.

Creator named Second World, Tokpa, Dark Midnight, giving it the color of Blue; its mineral is the power of silver; the Spruce Tree is strong in the power of evergreens. The power of the Sky Bird is the Eagle; the power of the earth animal; is the Skunk. In time, observation, trial and error will guide you to these gifted powers."

The people were thankful to Sotuknang who had allowed them to keep their sacred gifts of inner seeing and speaking. The people trusted these gifts and stood with a strong heart as they began their travels from one place to another, exploring the four corners of their new domain, multiplying their families as they continued their directed journey.

Time passed far beyond human knowledge as the overhead skies maintained a consistent coverage of dark gray clouds, heavy winds, sleet and rain. It seemed the fog never lifted, it consistantly rolled across the land forcing the people to live in caves, eventually becoming great hunters and gatherers as they lived off the land, struggling to adjust to a life in Second World. They learned to gather their foods and store it just as the Ant people had taught them, always sharing with those who could not fend for themselves.

Over a millennium as bad events came and went, the people continued to hone their skills to survive. They built comfortable homes along the rivers, eventually growing into large villages with trails that led to each others domain. The trouble started when some of the people created beautiful things with their hands, while others watched in greed wanting these unique pieces of beauty and began to barter for them. Over time, they were raising their voices loud for the trinkets and no longer to Creator. They let their senseless material world consume their everyday life. It seemed the more they collected the more they wanted, not realizing, they were slipping away from the good life.

The restless and greedy people continued to make fun of those who still sang praises to Creator and forced most of the people to bend to their control. The pillaging, violence and killing traveled, fast as the wind, across the lands. Many voices rang out in terrifying pain as death followed a silent path of spilled blood throughout Second World, causing their songs to Creator to be sung from a sad yet, silent heart. Those that followed the spiritual way knew the bitter times were upon them and once again traveled quickly in small groups. The people knew Sotuknang could hear their troubled voices and sang louder and louder until they became one voice.

Once again, Sotuknang heard and came to their call, saying, "It is time to come together. First, I will take all of you to the safety of the underground before I destroy Second World." Again, Sotuknang led them to the Ant Hill, stamped upon the ground and the earthen door opened. The people rushed into the Ant mound, assured by Sotkunang they would remain safe with the Ant people until he came for them. He sealed the ground and immediately the mountains began to shake, dismantling themselves as they dropped in thunderous pieces of stone throwing the water from the seas and over the land. Sotuknang returned to the center of the earth and commanded the twins, Poq'anghoya and Palongawhoya to abandon their stations. Mother Earth responded into one of her greatest tilts. She rolled over and over, swirling and spinning out of control, eventually plunging into a lifeless space of solid ice.

Time passed beyond what we know while the Second World people waited patiently. The humans trusted the Ant People, all the while feeling the many changes that were happening within their minds. Some were very thankful to have maintained their telepathic communication skills which were still held deep in their hearts from First World. While others were beginning to feel an erie silence coming from the overhead darkness. Without warning, some of the people collapsed in panic, while others felt they were losing their ability to speak or understand another's language. The people of purity made themselves available to those who were feeling their fear and ignorance and led them to the light.

Once again, the Ant leaders reminded the people of their first and second world teachings, bringing them back into a state of calmness. The Ant Leaders pointed to the thousands of tiny pieces of shiny crystal laying in the sand along the underground pathway. The people began to gather these tiny sparks of light remembering when the Ant people had once captured the brilliant light from the sun and placed it into the tiny crystals. Suddenly, the people's hearts opened, allowing a truth to flow through. It was the Ant People who graciously reminded everyone to use their inner vision which was hidden behind their eyelids. Over time, they all saw a perfect reflection throughout the underground darkness which brought a state of calmness to everyone.

The Ant leader spoke. "Since the beginning of first time, Creator's original plan has held the sacred laws as a protection for all those who entered first creation. The heart of all indigenous people understood the forgoing powers and were willing to share with those who took the opportunity to honor, respect and obey the sacred knowledge within natures forces which rest upon Mother Earth and within Father Sky."

These original people were very aware of the importance of collecting and sharing all the symbols, signs and verbal languages to help advance their children's, children. These evolutionary steps of understanding are very old, yet are hidden in the activity of all life, the seasons, the elements, the world history, philosophy, geography, astronomy and mathematics. These collective records are basically working in sync with all energies, sharing in the understanding and the purpose of life upon Mother Earth. In this manner, we know the truth will always remain pure within each heart if they forever bond to the original laws in Creator's bigger plan.

Over time, the people began to meet daily enjoying their discussions about their situations. They all agreed it would take a long time to destroy the Second World, but mostly, everyone was more concerned about the time it would take for the planet to cool off, so Sotuknang could build Third World.

The people spent many hours sharing their hypothetical conversations while waiting patiently for Sotuknang to complete Third World. These many conversations brought more and more people together as they shared their excitement for the coming of Third World.

Later on, the people sat quietly discussing the possibilities of their birth origin. Some believed they came from a hole in the ground, others say, they came from the sky. "No, argued an Inuit. "We are gifted survivors. We come from under the Ice with a thirst for adventure, still looking to find the warmth from above."

A Tewa medicine man, listened to all the bickering, then gently asked everyone to sit in a sacred circle. Once seated, he shared a teaching story of the mole, who once had visited the people who lived in the deep belly of Mother Earth. The Mole was thrilled when the people recognized him and asked about other worlds. Excitedly the mole, answered, "Your past is hidden in the Universe and it is up to each individual to find it."

Mole immediately began to dig toward the sky, throwing the dirt behind him.The people quickly formed a line and passed the loose soil back to the end of the line. They say that was how the tunnel of light was opened and closed, trapping some of the people in middle world. When they realized they could never return to the underworld, a sadness filled those forever lost souls. The Mole said, " You asked! I brought you to middle world. Look up! See the blue skies, stars and suns. If the Universe holds all of our history, then it is up to you to find it."

The Tewa medicine Man's eyes twinkled as he walked away. Silence reined over the crowd, as an old quiche Indian Woman, cackled, "If you can see the light across the sea, then surely you know you can live in the shadows of space," and ran away with glee.

A Cherokee man, cleared his throat and then replied, "We once lived on a small Island floating in a sea of frozen blocks of ice. They say four sky vaults, hung safely from high above, blocking the light from the people. One day, a Wolf listened to the sad stories of the people and suggested for everyone to come together and ask Father Sun to please travel over our little Island so we could get a glimpse of his warming light. When this happened, many green things sprung from the ground and offered healing medicines to all life forces who greeted Father Sun each day.

The voice of a Hopi Elder, added, "We as a people sprang from the sacred waters. The people say we looked above and felt a warmth of the energy coming from the light above. It was the sun, wind and water that taught us how to create great powers within our thoughts. We rise early to greet the sunrise and show our appreciation for the warmth of Father Sun. When we can gather and blend the accumulated energy from all light, heat and sound, this mass of pure energy can then bend the beam of light onto many sky mirrors and broadcast a greater power which can rule or destroy our world!"

This was the end of Tokpa, the Second World.
